Recruitment
What is Recruitment like at UND?
Recruitment, aka "Rush" or "Rush Week", is something that every Greek ogranization conducts in a semester to locate new members worthy of the Fraternity's lofty goals. Recruitment usually lasts about a week, in which chapter houses host dry (no alcohol) events to get potential members over to the house. It is an opportunity for Greek organizations to show potential members what they have to offer. If you are looking for a fraternity to join, we recommend you visit as many houses as possible, and find the house that offers what you are looking for, and where you feel the most comfortable.
Recruitment Through Scholarship
The Gamma Kappa chapter offers scholarships in the fall to incoming freshman and transfer students through the Recruitment Through Scholarship (RTS) program. This program is designed to offer exemplary students a chance to receive some financial aid for the semester. Fraternity membership is not required by any means, although it does provide a good way for chapter members to meet potential members. This year, the Gamma Kappa chapter awarded two (2) $250 scholarships to incoming freshman.
If you are interested in applying for our Recruitment Through Scholarship program for the Fall semester, you may print out the following form, complete it, and mail it to the address provided on the form. On arrival at UND, we conduct an interview process to get to know you better. Following the interview, we have a banquet where we select the recipient(s) of the scholarship.
What is Pledging like?
Pledging is the term used to describe the process a non-initiated member goes through to become an initiated member of Beta Theta Pi. The pledge program lasts one semester, in which pledges will learn the rich history and lore of the Gamma Kappa chapter and of Beta Theta Pi. Weekly meetings are held in which our pledge educator meets with the pledges to go through educational materials with them, such as the Son of the Stars Pledge Manual, our own pledge manual, and our songbook. During the pledge semester, all pledges can eat for free at the house, and are welcome at any time just as an active member would be. Pledges can also attend all of our social events, both closed and open house.
Costs
I'll put this information in here as soon as I figure out how much everything costs.

Members that live in the chapter house are eligble to receive several scholarships that our Alumni have graciously donated.

- Matthew Sailor Scholarship (Aviation students only, 3.0+ GPA) - $250/semester (+ the Glen Lee Scholarship, so $650 total)
Chapter House Information
The Gamma Kappa Chapter house is one of the largest fraternity houses on campus. It was actually built in two sections, part in the 1930s, and the rest in 1983. The house has has a full kitchen and cafeteria, and we also have our own fantastic cook, Pam. She makes us two delicious home-cooked meals every day, which is so much better than dorm food. We have a fully furnished kitchen and pantry, so members can make any type of breakfast they would like, or just have cereal.
The chapter house is a three-story brick building, with 28 single rooms for members to occupy. This is a huge benefit, since the dorms and most other Greek organizations require some type of roommates. There are two full bathrooms on each floor, so all members are easily able to use facilities. We also have free laundry for all members.
The house contains a formal room, the Smoker (a multi-use TV room), a study room, a dance/rec area in the basement, and also has a huge balcony.
If you would like to see some pictures of the house, please click some of the following links:
Those pictures were all taken during "Camp Week" which is a Philanthropy put on by the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority which we particpated in (and won!).
Grades
We take education seriously at the Gamma Kappa chapter. Last year, we achieved a 3.0 cumulative house GPA, which is the 2nd highest on campus. We are constantly striving to raise that number even higher. We have a dedicated Scholarship Chairman, who oversees that members are studying when necessary.
Other Benefits
- Room and Board Payments include 2 home-cooked meals per day
- All 28 rooms in the house are singles. NO ROOMMATES!
- Free use of Washers/Dryers
- Pledges eat for free during pledge semester
- Great friendships for life!
